Voting for the 2022 Board of Directors Election is now open! Please cast your vote for one candidate each for President-Elect; Board Member – North; and Board Member – South. Voting closes September 30, 2021.

Bylaw changes approved by the membership earlier this year included, among other modifications, that the nominating committee shall develop a slate consisting of at least one (1) candidate for northern California board members, one (1) candidate for southern California board member and one (1) candidate for president-elect. The nominating committee has opted to put forth a single slate of candidates for your consideration.  Also please note that now all members in good standing, regardless of member type, may vote.

Statement of Ideas and Goals for CSMFO

Over the past 15 years, CSMFO has more than doubled the number of its members. In order to keep pace with this extraordinary growth, CSMFO leaders have established organizational strategic goals on an annual basis to ensure that CSMFO continues to be the preeminent resource for promoting excellence in government finance.

Of CSMFO’s current core strategies, goals, and priority actions, the following resonate with me the most, and I anticipate CSMFO will continue to focus on for the near term:

– Appropriately structure staffing and operations to ensure that CSMFO volunteer leaders have the resources they need to effectively serve our members.

– Position CSMFO to be fiscally sustainable, ensuring that our resources and requirements are balanced, and are appropriately allocated to programs, events, and activities that serve our members and align with our core mission.

– CSMFO has made great strides over the past couple of years to engage its student members. With the support of the Board, we made membership free to students and established a Student Engagement Committee. Since 2018, the number of student members has more than tripled. It is incumbent upon us to connect with these future leaders to pass along our collective knowledge and serve as ambassadors for our noble profession.

My vision for CSMFO has been shaped by our collective experiences from managing, mitigating, and emerging from one of the greatest threats to civilization in a century. The pandemic highlighted our need to connect with one another. I would like to see CSMFO providing additional resources for us to return to in-person meetings when appropriate, including chapter meetings, training, and of course, the annual conference.

I am blessed to be a part of CSMFO leadership, and I would be honored to serve as your President in 2023.

Statement of Ideas and Goals for CSMFO

After over fifteen years of membership in CSMFO, I am excited to be a candidate for this year’s Board of Directors. My experience on the Program and Membership Committees, and my interactions with current and past association leaders, have prepared me for this opportunity.

My goals for my CSMFO Board term include:
• Lead efforts to enhance the leadership and operations of CSMFO to prepare our successful organization for the future,
• Support programs that provide professional development and networking opportunities for our members, including a California certification to supplement the GFOA’s CPFO certification,
• Continue to broaden the membership base to share all that our organization has to offer with other agencies that don’t currently benefit from CSMFO,
• Enhance the information sharing among members using the Knowledge Base platform to improve public policy and financial decision-making throughout California local governments,
• Increase student participation in CSMFO, by offering targeted conference programming, training opportunities, outreach events and other programs, to expand the candidate pipeline for careers in municipal finance, and
• Encourage more members to get involved in CSMFO committees to develop the organization’s leaders for the future.

Thank you for considering me for your board candidate for 2022.

Statement of Ideas and Goals for CSMFO

CSMFO has given so much to me both professionally and personally. Membership provides me with a valuable resource to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully advance my career. I have developed a network of colleagues that I can reach out to when needed. Conferences, chapter meetings, and even trainings can feel like a reunion.

Our community is what it is today because of hundreds of selfless volunteers. Volunteering is my way of giving back to the leaders who have come before me and the CSMFO community at large. Over the last five years, I have held a variety of volunteer positions. Serving as chapter chair taught me the essence of what CSMFO is all about, growing together as professionals. Participating on committees gave me an understanding of the structure of CSMFO and the amazing initiatives designed to enhance our membership benefits.

CSMFO is already an outstanding organization with a strong foundation. However, there is always room to strengthen and improve upon the base. Continuity of leadership, communications, and volunteer support are just a few of the areas I would like to focus on as a board member.
