I had asked the membership for suggestions as to how I can find Principal Employer data for the new Statistical Section.
Many of you reminded me that if I can’t get data from 9 years ago, I am allowed to report only current year and list the old data as ” “not available” “. (That doesn’t work for financial data, I understand, but it is o.k. for this.) Here are your suggestions:
- Local Chamber of Commerce (this is the #1 suggestion, but I have had no luck with that!)
- David Christian of City of Orange was able to purchase data from Inside Prospects (of San Diego) (Their Orange County representative is Bill Lukasik (949) 540-1400.)
- Nicolette Kay of City of Redlands discovered the Dun & Bradstreet website at wwww.selectory.com for almost all the information on the largest employers in the City. For employment numbers she found another resource at http:www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov. (see below)
To find Total Employment in our City, I went to http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov.
- Click on ” “Data Library.” “
- Then, click on ” “Labor Force Data Search Tool.” “
- Then, in Box 1, select ” “Sub-County Place.” “
- In Box 2, select your City.
- Click Continue.
- Select All Years.
- Select whatever time period you want (If you choose Annual, you won’t get any data for 2006, so you might want to choose June).
- Click Continue.
- Leave Box 5 as is.
- In Box 6, select Employment and View by Areas.
- For Display Type, choose View Data Table.
- THEN, click View Data.
It will only give you information back to 2000 (census), so it won’t specifically help with the 1997 number. But, at least it’s something to work from. Hope this helps! For the 10 largest employers in 1997, the City of Redlands had already been providing that information in previous CAFRs, so I was able to get that information from the 1997 CAFR.
