Does your City have a program that allows employees to purchase outdated computer items without going through the process of declaring the property surplus, offering the property to the general public, and either auctioning or receiving bids on the property. I received 24 responses:

  • 19 do not allow employees to purchase city property
  • 2 have policies specifying that computer equipment will be donated to specific groups
  • 1 allows the City Administrator to dispose of any fixed assets with a market value of less than $1,500 at his discretion. This City Administrator accepts sealed bids from employees for old computers and related equipment.

The West Valley Water District adopted a resolution (download below) that allows employees to purchase surplus computer equipment if the employee owns a legal licensed copy of the desktop operating system, is currently enrolled in college, and did not use, have control over, or was involved in the purchase of the computer equipment.
